We are happy to announce the election of Jill Gooding, C.S.B., of Esher, Surrey, England, to The Christian Science Board of Directors. Mrs. Gooding is a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal and a teacher of Christian Science. She will continue to hold her classes and association meetings in England. She received her education in both England and the United States and has held the position of Assistant Dean of Students at New York State University. Mrs. Gooding has been active in all aspects of branch church work. She succeeds Hal M. Friesen, C.S.B., who recently expressed his wish to retire from the Board.
Michael B. Thorneloe, C.S.B., will also be retiring as a member of the Board of Directors later this year to become a Circuit Lecturer in accordance with Article XXXI, Section 5, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy. Mrs. Eddy refers to the work of "this sacred office" in that By-Law. While Mr. and Mrs. Thorneloe will continue to live in the Boston area, they will spend sufficient time in the communities where he will lecture to become familiar with local needs in those parts of the world outlined in the Manual By-Law.
We are also grateful that Mr. Friesen has accepted appointment as a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society and has agreed to serve as Chairman. This follows his close association with the work of the Publishing Society during the last few years. He takes up this position with our very best wishes and our heartfelt gratitude for his dedicated work on the Board and for his willingness to postpone his plans to return to California until the projects of the Publishing Society outlined in our statement in the April Journal are well established.
