Should it be surprising to think of the Christian Science movement as still new? As someone once said, "A movement moves." Articles on the subject of Church and movement will appear regularly in this section.

For a healing Church

From the June 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian churches throughout the world have a common desire to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus. The Church of Christ, Scientist, founded by Mrs. Eddy, shares that commitment with other Christian denominations. And to do this, its members strive to emulate Jesus' works as evidence of obedience to his words.

The purpose of the Church as expressed by Mrs. Eddy at its inception is "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."Manual of The Mother Church, p. 17. It is therefore a healing Church.

Jesus clearly expected his followers to heal as he did. He said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do."John 14:12. For more than a hundred years, students of Christian Science have been following Jesus through the Christian ministry of healing.
