Lift your thought to God

From the June 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Centuries ago the Psalmist wrote, "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?" Many nowadays have similar thoughts when overwhelmed by problems and difficulties. But the Psalmist continued, "Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."Ps. 42:11.

Christian Science explains that we too can have hope and trust in God and that the understanding of this spiritual fact brings increasing health and harmony. The knowledge that it is possible for us to turn from a material to a spiritual viewpoint brings hope. We can turn humbly to God, who is unchanging divine Love.

However, we do need to take an essential first step—we need to want to reach out for spiritual help. How does this turning to God when we feel low really lift up our thought? It helps us learn what God does for His child, and there's much to learn! We can begin to discover that God's infinite goodness and care cannot allow His sons and daughters to fall out of His embrace. Turning to God and opening our thought to see the deep spiritual facts of our being lift our thought more quickly than anything else ever could.
