The future of Christian healing: fresh convictions and spiritual realism

From the June 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Fresh convictions concerning prayer, healing, and, most important, God, are cutting across years of entrenched public thought. The way is opening for people throughout Christian denominations to begin to experience more of the Bible's promise, specifically with regard to healing. The following are just a few of the signs of progress:

• "Taste and see how good our God can be" is often sung as a refrain in charismatic healing services. It's a direct challenge to the image of an angry, formidable God that has long dominated Christianity.

• Christians are increasingly rejecting the age-old notion that God causes or wants man to suffer. A letter to The Lutheran concludes: "It is just not scriptural to say that 'all suffering (or death) is God's will.' God's will in Christ is for wholeness and health."The Lutheran, February 2, 1987, p. 33.
