For over seventy years the teachings of Christian Science have been my help and guide. Since childhood I have had many proofs of God's care.
When I was growing up, our family lived on a farm in the mountains. One very hot summer day, my sisters and I went bathing in the big farm dam. Ignoring our mother's warning, we overstayed our time in the baking sun. Soon two of us were suffering from severe sunstroke. The family doctor was summoned, and he feared for our lives.
At this time a kind neighbour came over and said to my father, "Do you believe in God and prayer?" She then told him of Christian Science and how one could ask for prayerful help from a Christian Science practitioner. The nearest practitioner lived over a hundred miles away, so a telegram was sent to her. In a day or so my sister and I responded to the help and regained consciousness. I still recall our neighbour sitting by my bed, reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to me.
