In 1982 my employer's work changed because of corporate restructuring, and I began to wonder if we would soon be without our positions. The constant changes in responsibility and duties seemed difficult to adjust to. I prayed to know that God directs us and keeps us, and that usefulness and progressiveness are the outcome of living close to Him in all we do.
A Christian Science practitioner I spoke to about this situation was most helpful, and one assurance of hers was a constant source of inspiration. She stressed that the law of divine Principle puts us in our right place at the right time.
In the summer of 1983 it was evident that God's good purpose had been working out the problem of placement for my boss and me in a most unusual way. My boss told me that he'd been asked to go to England to supervise our company's activities in the United Kingdom and Europe, and he asked if I would like to go, too. I said "yes," although I'd never lived outside the state of California.
