The search for peace and healing

From the June 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many are searching for release from pain, hoping for peace to follow healing. The despairing plea "If this pain would only go away, I could be at peace" is not uncommon.

In fact, when we know of someone who is having to confront such a challenge, it's only natural that we want to reach out for God's help and see the deep comfort and power of divine Love at work. When I had to face such a condition in my own life, I began to realize that I couldn't simply wait for the pain to stop before I found the peace that I longed for.

As I began to see the immediacy of God's love—that there are no human conditions that can shut such love out of our lives—I experienced a peace that wasn't passively waiting for conditions to change. What a comfort this was!
