Christian Science heals. I know because I have relied on the truth it teaches about God's all-power and ever-presence for many years and have been healed and benefited in many ways. As a young mother raising children in wilderness Alaska (sometimes without road, telephone, or neighbors), I began to study Christian Science very seriously. The unusual demands of isolated living conditions mandated a deeper trust in God, and I found myself turning to Him for real help in every need.
Prayer brought calm and protection in our stormy boating experiences, made our travel in light aircraft a lesson in relying on the "wings" of God, Love, and brought guidance in our dealings with wildlife and climate extremes. Injuries from work with logs, tools and machinery, fire stoves, and so on, were extremely rare, but the few experienced were healed quickly through prayer alone.
The effective praying I speak of was not faith in a God I did not understand; quite the contrary. I was daily learning to understand and feel the active presence of God. This was a result of much study of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and of class instruction with a Christian Science teacher.
