Relying on God

From the July 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One afternoon one of my adult children telephoned. During our conversation she asked where Mrs. Eddy states that Christian Science teachers and practitioners should never give human advice to their students and patients. This point had come up often in our home over the years.

As our concept of ourselves and those around
us is brought into alignment with God, our mental
horizon widens. We begin to see more of the infinite
possibilities for His man.

My immediate response was a quotation from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy. It is from "A Rule for Motives and Acts," which many Christian Scientists use daily in their prayer. It is also read once each month during the Sunday church service. In part this rule reads, "In Science, divine Love alone governs man; and a Christian Scientist reflects the sweet amenities of Love, in rebuking sin, in true brotherliness, charitableness, and forgiveness." Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 1.
