Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states, "In healing the sick and sinning, Jesus elaborated the fact that the healing effect followed the understanding of the divine Principle and of the Christ-spirit which governed the corporeal Jesus." I experienced the healing effect of this understanding a few years ago.
We were entertaining guests one weekend and had arranged to take them to dinner and a theatrical performance. As I stepped off a street curb enroute from the restaurant to the theater, I lost my balance and severely twisted an ankle. We went on our way, but later, at home, I was wakened in the night by considerable pain in the ankle. I prayed for a while and fell back to sleep.
When I rose early Sunday morning the evidence was alarming. There was still much pain, and the ankle was so swollen I could not put on a shoe. This was a concern, as I was serving as First Reader at the time, and I needed to be at my post that morning.
