One day I received a call from the riding stable where our daughters took lessons. The caller said that one of our daughters, Suzanne, had fallen off her horse; I could come quickly or meet the ambulance at the hospital. I said that I would be right over, and asked if they could please wait. I left our oldest daughter to call a Christian Science practitioner, tell her what had happened, and ask her to pray.
On the drive to the stable I prayed with the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation, as well as with "the scientific statement of being," which are found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I also recognized that our daughter's true substance—the spiritual qualities she expressed in her real being as God's spiritual idea —could never be out of place or be touched by material conditions.
When I arrived at the stable I spoke to Suzanne, but I saw that moving her would not be an easy thing to do. She was drifting in and out of consciousness. Police and a local ambulance squad were there. A policewoman said that they wanted to take our daughter to the hospital for X-rays to see if anything was broken. I agreed that it be done.
