LEARNING ABOUT CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Learning for the first time?

From the July 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

People become acquainted with Christian Science in many different ways. Of course, some grow up in families where Science has been known and practiced for a long time. Others come to it as a personal discovery later in their lives.

Growing up in such a home, where God is felt to be an active presence, can be a wonderful experience. As one who wasn't introduced to Christian Science this way, I was interested in these families.

I eventually had four good friends of my age in high school who had been raised in Christian Science. When they saw my newcomer's enthusiasm in the things I was learning for the first time, a couple of those friends even said that they wished they could have come to Christian Science as I had—as an outsider, so to speak. They felt they often took it for granted and as a result hadn't explored nearly enough its meaning and potential in their lives.
