How Christ protects consciousness

From the October 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many people take with some degree of seriousness the effect their thoughts can have on their well-being. For instance, it would be fairly common for people to recognize that if their attitudes were consumed with hatred, such harsh feelings over a period of time might not lead to the most pleasant condition for their bodies! At minimum, most would acknowledge that an individual's resentment or hostility can rob him of a more normal life of peace and happiness.

Not as many people have considered that the thoughts of others may have an effect on their well-being. This is a subject, however, that Mary Baker Eddy felt needed to be much more discerningly examined. The overall thrust of her teachings relates to the Bible's promise of an infinitely good God, man as the outcome of God's pure nature, and creation as the spiritual and perfect reflection of God.

But these teachings of Christian Science also come face to face with the materialistic view of existence and exactly how we can break through the limitations of mortality into a fuller sense of life as governed entirely by God. Christian Science finds crucial guidance in the Bible about how to confront and overcome facets of materialism that lead to heartache, inharmony, disease.
