From The Christian Science Board of Directors
New appointment
Joining the Journal, Sentinel, and Herald Editorial Department on January 1, 1993, is Barbara M. Vining, C.S.B., of Toledo, Ohio. She will serve as an Associate Editor along with Mary Metzner Trammell, C.S.B., and Russ Gerber, C.S.B. Readers already know Barbara through her writing, which has been appearing in these publications for over twenty years.
In February 1992, Nathan A. Talbot, C.S.B., was appointed Sentior Executive Editor of The Christian Science Journal, Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science. Because of his desire in recent years to return to his native Idaho to devote full time to the healing practice and to his work as a Christian Science teacher, he requested that his appointment be a "temporary tour of duty." As of December 31, Nate's work as Senior Executive Editor will be complete. When he returns to Idaho, he will continue serving as President of The Mother Church through the end of his term in June 1993.
Throughout the history of this Church, there have been many Christian Scientists who have served tirelessly on the front lines. Yet Nate's willingness to serve has been far beyond the normal call of duty. Perhaps best recognized in the Field for his work as Manager of Committees on Publication, his selfless efforts literally deserve a medal of honor. We will all miss his cheerfulness, steadiness, and spiritual insight, but we know he will be continuing to make important contributions to the Cause of Christian Science in the years to come.
Barbara has devoted her life concurrently both to her family and to the public practice of Christian Science healing. She became a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal in 1966 and is also a teacher of Christian Science. She has served in nearly all aspects of church work, including holding positions as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, executive board chairman, and First Reader. In addition, she has carried out various assignments in support of Christian Science college organizations and the Committee on Publication.
At present, Barbara is a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Maumee, Ohio. She will continue to hold her class and association in Toledo.
Christian Science Quarterly
—
Full Text Edition
The Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, in conjunction with the Publisher of the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, is pleased to announce that commencing with the January 1993 issue, the Full Text Edition of the Christian Science Quarterly will carry the citations from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures in "book-image" format, adapted from Concord, A Study Package, to adhere as closely as possible to the actual placings of each word on the page of the published book. Line numbers will be included, and marginal headings will appear when they overlap with a selected citation.
The aim of this change is to make the Full Text Edition as faithful as possible to the published text of Science and Health as approved for publication by Mrs. Eddy. This change is being accomplished with no increase in the number of pages, and at no additional production and subscription costs.
As is evident from William Dana Orcutt's book, Mary Baker Eddy and Her Books, Mrs. Eddy placed great emphasis on the correct printing and publishing of her writings; this change in the Full Text Edition of the Quarterly is being made in a spirit of adherence to our Leader's wishes.
