CHRISTIAN SCIENCE LECTURES

Answering the call for help

From the May 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In recent years, church members have been looking in many directions to reach new listeners with the message of a Christian Science lecture. One church found a very encouraging way to do it, responding to their neighbors' spiritual hunger and human need. The way this lecture was approached and was scheduled during a busy holiday season, can help others to find similar innovative ways to reach receptive hearts. The lecturer and the lecture committee tell something of their work together and what they learned.

Kansas City, MO

The more I lecture the more I find myself really reaching out to my fellowman. A commitment to reach people, however, is more than a simple desire to do so. It means willingness to pray until we have an idea, a theme, for the lecture that speaks to people's hearts, concerns, and spiritual needs. Then there has to be a willingness to follow through so that the idea actually reaches those for whom it has been prepared.
