During the last forty-five years I have experienced literally hundreds of healings through prayer in Christian Science. These include cuts, bruises, burns, defective eyesight, broken bones, and injuries from two major accidents, one with a tractor and the other a chainsaw. Life on a farm, although enjoyable, has not been easy; but it has been a marvellous proving ground for a student of Christian Science.
Two early healings were important landmarks for me. Before marriage I gave up drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco. I turned from alcohol fairly easily, but having smoked consistently from age fifteen, and with only human willpower to use, it had taken twelve months of torment before the craving left me. Then, under stress, I started smoking again a few years later. I made many attempts to stop, but all failed after a day or so. It seemed hopeless.
Then my wife began to study Christian Science, and after much initial resistance, so did I. The beauty and simplicity of the services at the branch church nineteen miles away, coupled with the sheer logic of Mrs. Eddy's explanations of God and man, soon made me want to join this church.
