Expressing gratitude for a physical healing is only part of this testimony. Through the following experience I learned also that God is everywhere, with everyone, and that we all are truly one in the brotherhood of man. I am so grateful that with the Bible and Science and Health we have a "portable" church that we can take anywhere in the world; also that we can all study the same Lesson-Sermon, which is read each week in all Christian Science churches.
My husband's work brought us to live in a communist country in Asia, far from family and friends. In this city of thirteen million, there were no Christian Science churches. We had only been there one month, when one day I accidentally burned my right hand severely with boiling water. The pain was so intense that I could not compose my thoughts, and I knew I needed help.
Since I was alone at home, I managed with great effort to call a Christian Science practitioner in the United States. This in itself was a major accomplishment, as the telephones did not work regularly, and every call was operator-handled, with frequent language miscommunications. Although the practitioner was not at home, I left a message on her answering machine, confident that she would soon be praying with and for me, which she was.
