I had the best training possible in my field, and had done well in school. But when I married I consciously chose to put a formal career aside in order to raise a family.
Although I loved my children, I frequently felt burdened and frustrated. The long hours my husband's profession required of him often prevented him from helping out at home.
When the children had grown, I felt my time had finally come. Now my talents would be allowed to flower! With my husband's encouragement and help, I pursued a graduate degree and started my own small, art-related business. While following this course of "self-fulfillment, I started to undergo menopause. After a few months this process appeared to take on an abnormal pattern; my bodily functions started to get out of control. I grew progressively fearful and called a Christian Science practitioner, who prayed for me.
