The world yearns for the redemptive, healing power of Christ, Truth. And yet this same weary world, despite its suffering, sometimes seems indifferent, cold, even hostile toward its liberator.
In the book of Mark, we read that the Gadarene who had "an unclean spirit" cried out, "What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God?. . . torment me not." See Mark 5:1-15. This sufferer with a "legion" of evils had been chained, but he fought against his chains and broke them. Plainly, the Gadarene needed healing, and Jesus healed him despite the resistance.
So often those in great need will resist, oppose, the very truth of spiritual reality that will free them. Why? One reason may be that some people believe the errors apparently dominating them are a permanent part of them, not just a false imposition of the carnal mind. Perhaps they fear a loss of identity when some sin or discord is uncovered and rebuked. They feel threatened by a Christly influence.
