Testimonies of Healing

One afternoon when I was...

From the July 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One afternoon when I was in my teens, I lay on a cot with an earache. After a time, I got up and stood by a wood stove that was burning in the room. The radiating heat reminded me of God's radiant love for man, filling all space. Just as the heat penetrated everything around it, so God's love penetrated every human condition, negating all sorrow and pain. I became joyfully confident in the simple truth of God's ever-presence. Soon I was completely well, and I have never had an earache since, which has been over a decade.

For about three years I had a wart on my hand. I would often fret over it, since it would get in the way of my fingers and become sensitive—it was preoccupying me mentally. I had been told once that true growth is completely spiritual—of God —and therefore wholly good. I prayed to see that my true growth was the growing understanding of my completeness in God, and that this could not be inhibited by a physical problem. With this in mind, I forgot about the wart, and not long after that I realized it was gone. This occurred about four years ago.

One day in the fall of 1992 I felt something resting on my head. When I went to brush it away, I felt a sharp pain in my hand and realized I had been stung by a bee. My hand swelled so that I was unable to grasp items, and that night and the next I had trouble sleeping.
