Quick healing

From the August 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How often do we expect quick healing? Do we believe that such healing is only for people with "more advanced" spiritual understanding or who seem to be better Christians?

Many of us have studied Christ Jesus' wonderful, immediate healings of serious disease and marveled at what was accomplished so quickly. Yet didn't he promise, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father"? John 14:12. The Christ-power, so beautifully and thoroughly expressed in Jesus' ministry, is still here. It was not confined to Jesus' time on earth. As we cast out preconceptions about personal abilities and human limitations, we can begin to appreciate that healing isn't a matter of time or person. Those who follow Jesus' teachings today are modern-day disciples, as capable of healing effectively as were his early students.

Modern-day disciples should strive to follow this New Testament counsel: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Phil. 2:5. A key in doing this is eradicating unchristian elements of character. Willingness to be more compassionate, less reactive, less self-serving, or to live a more moral life makes way for healing. Clearly, we have to live the Christ-principle, not just be aware of it. We must follow Jesus' teachings in regard to obeying the laws of God and loving our neighbor.
