Christian Science heals much more than disease, pain, and deterioration. With spiritual healing comes regeneration that leaves us better morally and spiritually as well as sound mentally and physically Sometimes we become so intent on getting rid of sickness that we overlook the more important healing that is occurring. As we study pray and drink in the truths of God and man in the Bible, and in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, we are being awakened to spiritual sense. This awakening washes away sin, fear, and false belief, whether we are immediately aware of this or not.
"Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science," writes Mrs. Eddy "It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness. The emphatic purpose of Christian Science is the healing of sin. . . ." Rudimental Divine Science, p. 2. Yet aren't we often more concerned with getting rid of physical discomforts than sin? Perhaps we pass certain peccadilloes off as normal human foibles. Of course, if a fault obviously causes us problems, we give sin some attention. If hate begins to hurt, we do something about it. But what if we were to begin working and praying mainly to overcome sin? What we would accomplish!
In recent years the word sin has slipped from many vocabularies, as though it were of no consequence. Christian Science has been revolutionary in taking up the healing of both sin and disease through prayer alone. Ignoring sin does not destroy it. We don't want mistakes, intrusions, or imperfections in any work we do. If we want to create a work of art, we strive for perfect expression. Aren't our lives worth that same care?
