I saw an interview the other day in which a teenage boy said that he was disappointed in himself for some of the trouble he had caused in the past, and that he intended to change his ways. It was quite touching to hear that he wanted to improve his life not just for his own sake, but also because he wanted to make his mother happy. It was a good reminder that it's not only younger children who are eager to please their parents.
Now, think of what it means to please God, the divine Father-Mother of all of us. Nothing is more important and more rewarding, because God is our creator and we live to glorify Him. And in expressing His nature more fully we bless others in the most meaningful way
But God doesn't see us as mortals who need to please Him in order to get on His "good side." He sees us as His expression, His spiritual likeness. In a very real sense, then, we're pleasing Him when we're being our real selves, when we're increasingly expressing His nature.
