A Reading Room worker and the sheltering presence of Love

From the March 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently the prayerful focus of our Reading Room staff was a passage from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy: "Universal Love is the divine way in Christian Science" (p. 266).

During one of the heaviest rainfalls of the season, a staff worker entering the Reading Room found a baby carriage in front of the doorway. A man and a woman were about to put their two preschool children into the carriage and go out into the downpour. While making an unsuccessful attempt to rent an apartment, they had lost their place in a shelter. And they were told that all other shelters were filled to capacity. Their finances depleted now, and with no place to live, they felt without hope.

The staff worker reminded herself that God's unconditional love always cares for His dear children 's need. Listening to the Father's voice, she met this family's immediate need for shelter from the rain by ushering them into the study room to view the Bible Lesson on video cassette.
