An interview with the Chairman of The Christian Science Board of Directors

Translating the Church's mission into practical objectives

From the March 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To explain the genesis of the set of working priorities developed by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, the Editors recorded a conversation with Virginia S. Harris, Chairman of The Christian Science Board of Directors. The following questions and answers are excerpts from this wide ranging discussion of the Mission/Purpose/Focus/Objectives Statement featured in this issue of the Journal.

Over the past three years, agreed-upon areas of focus and specific priority objectives have evolved. How has this come about, and are you finding it helpful?

All of this has resulted from Mary Baker Eddy's ongoing leadership. Looking to the Manual of The Mother Church and to her other writings, one can see the eternal design underlying the mission and purpose of her Church, just as we can find in these writings purpose and direction for our lives.
