I am a new student of Christian Science. My best friend gave me a copy of Science and Health not long ago, and my journey through its pages has been intense, enlightening, and fruitful.
Several days after I received it, I returned home from work one day with a bad head cold. Immediately I climbed into bed and picked up Science and Health. Praying for understanding, I read page after page for several hours. I digested the words in my hunger to learn of truth. As I turned out the light to go to sleep, I suddenly realized I was well. The error that I had sensed earlier was now gone. I smiled to myself. This was my first healing. This was a healing for a person who was in his early study of Christian Science. To quote a friend from church, my level of comprehension is currently "the tip of the lightbulb."
I gave a prayer of thanks to God. I am constantly grateful for Christian Science. This has proved to me that even a beginning student can immediately experience the benefits of its practice. As Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "The understanding that the Ego is Mind, and that there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to destroy the errors of mortal sense and to supply the truth of immortal sense" (Science and Health, p. 216).
