I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School and had been healed through prayer as a child and young adult. Sad to say, during my middle years I drifted away from studying the Bible and Science and Health. Then one day, in desperation, I called a Christian Science practitioner about a very painful, long-lasting sciatica condition in my leg. Actually it was my mother's encouragement that led me back to Christian Science. She finally said, "You know, there is only one way to go—Christian Science."
I remember visiting a practitioner in her office but cannot say exactly how she prayed for me as it was about twenty years ago. However, I will never forget that the fear of the pain left me right away. Within a day or two I realized that the condition was completely gone, and it has never returned. This experience helped me to see that God's care is always right at hand, even though we may have strayed and put reliance on material methods, to no avail. Recognizing that God's law is always operating was a turning point for me, and I gradually began to study and to apply Christian Science again out of gratitude for this wonderful healing.
When I was at a point that is generally considered to be late in life, the company where I had worked for many years went out of business.
