Christian Science has been a way of life for my family for three generations. I have experienced many healings through Christian Science treatment, so it was natural for me, when my son experienced pain in his lower abdomen, to turn to the finest healing power known to our family, the healing power of God.
Because of my great concern for my son, I called a Christian Science practitioner to treat him through prayer. The practitioner was notified regularly regarding our son's needs. I remained with my son, praying. That evening, however, it appeared that his appendix ruptured. I assured him that God loved him unconditionally and that even at that moment God was caring for him. My son courageously affirmed his trust in God. Soon he fell asleep. I slept at his side. The next morning, when my son awoke, his condition had worsened. My son, I, and the practitioner prayed that entire day, specifically concerning the spiritual fact that, as God's child, my son's real identity was exclusively spiritual. That evening my son rested quietly, and so did I. The next morning, he woke completely healed, with no vestige of the pain or the ruptured appendix. He immediately resumed his normal activities.
In addition to my son's healing, I would like to share a healing of my own. At sunrise, I had started a hike from the north rim of the Grand Canyon to the south rim. Hiking down the fourteen miles of the North Kaibab trail was a joy. After crossing the Colorado River, however, I became feverish, and my vision was impaired. I could not stand, and I was nauseated. To all appearances, I was not going to make it out of the canyon without medevac assistance.
