Letters

From the May 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A dear friend whom I had known since our schooldays in South Africa went to settle in Israel in the 1970s, saying she wanted to contribute to the building of Israel.

When I visited her there fifteen years later, I felt that our conversation ended at Malachi—at least on a spiritual level—and our communication remained purely on a social level.

Last November she visited me here in England, and she told me that her daughter had developed an interest in alternative medicines. I said I had a book on "alternative medicine" that might be of interest to her daughter, and I handed her a copy of the Trade Edition of Science and Health. I was surprised at myself—I had known this friend intimately for thirty-four years and had never thought of doing that before!
