Annual Meeting 1998

From the June 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The closing years of this century continue to be marked by an accelerating public demand for spiritual answers and for the system of healing that Mary Baker Eddy discovered and then provided to the world in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

As has been the case with the past several Annual Meetings, this year's meeting will record both humanity's burgeoning spiritual quest and the creative and timely ways that The Mother Church and its members are responding. In accordance with the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, Article XIII, Section 1, the meeting will include . . listening to the reports of Treasurer, Clerk, and Committees, and general reports from the Field." This year's reports will look thoughtfully at the leavening effect Science and Health is having in theology today. At the 1997 Annual Meeting, the reports from the Field focused on the leaven in medicine.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "Our Master said to every follower: 'Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature! . . . Heal the sick! . . . Love thy neighbor as thyself!' It was this theology of Jesus which healed the sick and the sinning. It is his theology in this book and the spiritual meaning of this theology, which heals the sick and causes the wicked to 'forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts" (pp. 138-139).
