"How I study the Bible Lesson—and put it into practice"

From the June 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This feature gives readers an opportunity to share with one another helpful approaches to their study of the Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly, and how they put what they learn into practice in their lives. These Bible Lessons consist of references from the Bible and from Science and Health.

About three years after I began the serious study of Christian Science, I decided to read through the Bible Lesson while I was marking the citations for that week's Lesson in the Bible and Science and Health. It was inspiring. That evening I told a friend of mine how much I enjoyed reading all six sections together. ... She said that is the way you are supposed to read it. I was quite surprised.

I told her I had been taught in Sunday School to read one section a day—the first on Monday and the sixth on Saturday. She said that the Sunday School teacher may have said that in order to encourage pupils to get started in reading the Lesson, but most people who study the Lesson read the entire Lesson each day. That week I read all six sections each day and was delighted at how much I learned.
