Christian Scientists and family physicians exchange ideas

From the June 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Toward the end of last year, the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Illinois participated in a three-day American Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly at McCormick Place in Chicago. There was a record attendance of almost 20,000.

Bruce Risk, Committee on Publication for Illinois and coordinator of the Committee's exhibit, told the Journal that the main objective had been to continue the dialogue on spiritual healing between Christian Scientists and medical professionals resulting from the Christian Science Church's successful participation in several Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center symposiums on "Spirituality & Healing in Medicine."

"In our exchanges with convention delegates and exhibitors in Chicago," he said, "we focused on illuminating the unimpeachable, indissoluble spiritual nature of well-being, without which health can neither be achieved nor protected. And it was deeply gratifying to hear many physicians openly acknowledge God as the healer, and to observe the eagerness with which they sought and received information on practicing spiritual healing in Christian Science."
