The news tells of threats to our future from many directions. These certainly need to be addressed. But sometimes society tends to magnify in an unhealthy way the problems it would remedy, and this draws thought away from God-centered solutions. The Journal asked frequent contributor Nathan A. Talbot to comment on this issue.
So much in the world calls for—even aggressively demands—our attention. Listen up! Respond! Come to me! Much of society acquiesces to such demands. And yet it is remarkable that in the middle of all this a quiet, spiritually enlightened voice is credibly insisting, "There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 102 It's appropriate, of course, to respond to legitimate needs. But it's not helpful to be at the beck and call of all that clamors for our attention. Our thoughts can be drawn to Spirit, God, instead of to a worldly perspective. In this way we can bring healing to the world.
