Arthritis healed

From the February 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I found my way into Christian Science and a complete healing of arthritis on my journey to find God. I had been diagnosed as having arthritis. And when the diagnosis was given, I shrank for a moment with fear. But somewhere in my consciousness was this certainty: "There is a God, and I'll find Him. And surely this God didn't put me on earth to suffer." When I told the doctor this, he looked at me compassionately and assured me that they would do all they could to keep me comfortable. Then started the long, painful year of treatment, during which I felt that I had to find God. Only He could heal.

After many years of searching for God and holding to this inner conviction, I felt I was healed. At this time I was looking into Christian Science. I was also visiting a person in a retirement home, and we became friends. She told me she wished she had studied Christian Science more when she was young. I admired this woman, so I now took a serious interest in going to church, and I liked what I was hearing.

Eventually I joined the Church, and Christian Science became my way of life. A short time later, however, the painful arthritis seemed to return. I wasn't too dismayed, because by this time I was familiar with the one hundred pages of testimonies in the back of Science and Health. These are accounts from people who were healed by reading the book. So I diligently continued reading Science and Health.
