Tobacco habit overcome

From the July 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was a smoker. One day, after studying "the scientific statement of being," from Science and Health, I was struck by this line: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness" (p. 468). I also reflected on the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3), and a familiar Bible verse from Deuteronomy, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might" (6:5). As a result of this prayer, it occurred to me that I, too, was a spiritual idea, and as such did not crave tobacco. This healing was immediate, permanent, and effortless.

I, too, was
a spiritual idea,
and as such did
not crave tobacco.

For the work of Christ Jesus, who showed us how to heal, and for the discovery by Mary Baker Eddy of the Science of Christ, as well as for her purity of thought, I am profoundly grateful.
