For the past year, I have been choosing spiritual topics that I want to give deeper thought to and thinking about them one at a time throughout the day for several days. This has been the most wonderful experience for me. My first topic was the idea of abiding in Spirit, God. After praying with this idea for about a week, I had an opportunity to witness its practical effect in our family.
After dinner, I was giving my two boys their bath and reading a book to my daughter in the same room. The boys were getting very rowdy in the bathtub, jumping around, and so forth. They continued being rowdy after being asked to stop three times. Then the game came to a sudden stop when the younger son jumped off the side of the tub and landed on the faucet on his nose. As I turned to him, I felt the peace that come with abiding in Spirit, and felt confident that God was in control. I kept reassuring him that all was well, that God was right here. There was no doubt in my thought that we could not be outside of God's control for an instant, since God is All-in-all. The bleeding stopped instantly. I looked over at my older son, and he was praying as well. My daughter asked if there was anything that she could do to help. I was so grateful at this moment for Christian Science, not only for the calm thought and for God's ever-present law of harmony in action, but for the response this Science elicits from our children—prayer. I thanked the children for their prayers and pointed out to them how God had already been at work. All this was taking place while I was drying and dressing my younger son.
I picked him up and took him to the rocking chair to give him specific Christian Science treatment, as there was evidence of injury. My son was very calm and without pain since the bleeding had stopped. When the treatment was complete, I looked down at him sleeping and noticed that his nose was perfectly back together again. There was only a little mark, and that went away in a few days. Every time I saw him during those few days, I expressed gratitude for this healing and declared that the accident had never touched him as God's child. The Science of Christ could be all that was carried forward, to keep blessing us.
