"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised" (Luke 4:18).
The authority of the Christ expressed in this Biblical passage touched me with its power and washed away a sense of mortal history and fear. It renewed my spirit, restored my peace of mind, and gave me great freedom and joy in innocence.
Several years ago, I was having continual problems with work relationships. In two successive jobs, I had bosses who were almost tyrannical in their management style. Since I was new to the profession, this severely undermined my self-confidence. There were also periods of insomnia and anxiety. I had been praying about this for some time, but progress seemed slow. So I went to see a Christian Science practitioner. He encouraged me to love—to dig more deeply and love. I felt I had already been doing this, but I agreed to try harder.
