The African American Jubilee Edition of the Bible isn't a new translation or interpretation of the Bible, but is a new setting for the King James Version and the Contemporary English Version. Each version includes a 283-page preface comprising essays and images that call for fresh engagement with the Holy Scriptures through the lens of the African American experience.
spoke recently with , director of the office of church relations for the American Bible Society, who began the research that led to the Jubilee Edition.
"The Bible is an incredible, nurturing resource, and a fulfilling manuscript, historically, for me," said Mr. Allen. "I read it daily. I'm in love with it. I'm just as much enchanted with it as I was when I first recognized its potential as a young boy. I would recommend it to anybody and everybody. It is a great book. It's the greatest book!
