DISCOVERING SCIENCE AND HEALTH AND ITS AUTHOR

'There is a sincere hunger for Truth'

From the November 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The fact that Science and Health has recently sold its ten millionth copy attests to the ever-increasing demand for the ideas in this book—practical spiritual ideas that have been helping millions find comfort and healing for over 125 years. The following is an interview with from Pennsylvania, USA. Jessie, who today helps others find healing through prayer as a Christian Science practitioner, was first introduced to Science and Health less than ten years ago. She comments on what she's seeing of this profound search for spirituality, and how she is responding to that hunger.

How were you introduced to Science and Health?

At the time I found Christian Science and Science and Health, I was reading a book called A Course in Miracles, which was my first encounter with the concept of questioning the substantiality of matter—whether that which we see, hear, and touch, is as solid as it seems. A Course in Miracles: Combined Volume, Foundation for Inner Peace (New York: The Penguin Group, 1996 ). I was talking with some friends about this idea, and they in turn introduced me to Science and Health. At first, I had a hard time reading it and kept falling asleep, but I reached a turning point when I decided I could depend on the ideas in this book.
