Letters & Conversations

LETTERS

From the July 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am writing to express my concern about the quality of articles in the Journal. Lately, I have noticed that the articles have gotten shorter and shorter. I feel that many of the articles lack metaphysical depth. I have always thought of the Journal as a great periodical for practicing Christian Scientists, since it has always attacked tough issues and offered more advanced insights into prayer. It seems as if our periodicals are now focusing their attention on attracting new readers . . . .

Editor's note: In an editorial in the first issue of this magazine in 1883, founder Mary Baker Eddy wrote that the Journal was intended to answer questions that were sent to practicing Christian Scientists from people interested in metaphysical healing. (This editorial may be read in its entirety in her Miscellaneous Writings, p. 4.) The Journal's goal today continues to be to respond to the growing number of seekers from a variety of backgrounds asking questions about spiritual healing. We welcome articles of any length written with this audience in mind.
