When bees swarm

Creation is naturally benign.

From the July 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I love nature—trees, flowers, animals, and birds. For many years, though, I was terrified of certain bugs, especially spiders. Yet a gradual transformation of thought has taken place through my study of Christian Science.

Realizing that God is the only true Mind of all of us, including animals, I began to see the actual, benign nature of creation. The Biblical figure Daniel must have felt God's perfect control of His creation in the lion's den. See Dan, chap. 6 . Science and Health explains this: "Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lion's den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible." Science and Health, p. 514. All creatures, in their true nature are good, because each expresses the one Mind.

I had an experience some years ago that, for me, illustrated the rewards of a spiritual approach to dealing with creatures. Through deep prayer at that time over some difficult issues in my life, I had won some hard-fought spiritual battles. I had greater feeling of God's presence than I had ever known. I found that a keen awareness of God's infinitude brought remarkable results—healings happened spontaneously.
