CONVERSATIONS

The door to freedom was open

From the July 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

is a Christian Science practitioner in Bombay, India. She spoke with journalist about her search for truth and freedom.

I was brought up in the Zoroastrian faith. It is based on good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. According to the traditions I was taught, the kings mentioned in the Bible, Ahasuerus or Xerxes, Darius, and Cyrus were Zoroastrians. The prophet Zoroaster foretold the coming of the Saviour. And Cyrus allowed the Jews to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and await the Messiah. Also, the Magi were Zoroastrian priests and astrologers. They followed the Bethlehem star to Jesus, whom they worshiped and to whom they gave expensive gifts.

I accepted the teachings of Zoroastrianism. What's more, I had been taught that God had placed us in a certain religion, and that we should never leave it. So, for the longest time, I didn't question my faith or seek alternatives to it.
