• League of Nations created.

1921

• Swedish women given the right to vote.

1922

• British Broadcasting Company founded (changed to British Broadcasting Corporation in 1927)

1924

• Greece becomes a republic.

• Compulsory voting introduced for federal elections in Australia.

• Adolf Hitler writes Mein Kampf in prison.

• Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen completes what was then the longest dog-sled journey across the North American Arctic.

1926

• Robert Goddard launches first liquid-propelled rocket.

1927

• Charles Lindbergh becomes first man to fly solo nonstop from New York to Paris.

1928

• Alexander Fleming discovers penicillin.

1929

• United States stock market crashes; economy begins to slide.

1930

• World depression deepens.

• Scandinavian edition of the Herald is issued.

• Frank Whittle patents first jet engine.
