One afternoon when I was home alone, my husband's aunt telephoned. Frantically, she told me that my mother-in-law, who had a long history of drug addiction, was now high on drugs and out of control. As we talked, she told me that my mother-in-law had just jumped into her car and sped away.
I couldn't help look for her. But I could pray.
I wasn't in a position to help look for her because we lived far away from the family at that time. Also, I was confident that my husband's aunt would know what steps to take, since she was right on the scene. But I immediately began to pray because I knew this would help all of us. In my prayers, I affirmed that my mother-in-law had never been out of God's care, that God, not drugs, was controlling her. I prayed to know that God governed the whole situation, and no one could be harmed by her actions. I took the time to get really clear within myself that my mother-in-law was the child of God, subject to His laws of love and care.
