A father's thoughts about his son

The Journal asked Keith's father, William Robey, to give his perspective on his son's life as he was growing up, and to talk about their relationship now.

From the October 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have to admit that Keith grew up in a home that wasn't the best in the world. I drank a good bit and was gone from home a great deal of the time. I was not the perfect father, but I did keep a job and provided Keith with all the necessities of life.

I finally got involved in church and rededicated my life to Christ. But by then I feared that it was too late to do anything about Keith's problem. It had gone too far, and he just wouldn't listen to me, seeing how I had been in the past.

Since my divorce, I have gotten remarried to a very fine Christian, and have started rebuilding my relationships with my daughter and Keith. Sometimes one has to hit bottom to realize it's time to turn one's life around, and that is basically what happened to me.
