"Love: The Anti-Drug" is the headline on an advertisement that ran in The New York Times a couple of years ago. As this is being written, the advertiser's website (www.theantidrug.com) is featuring Truth as the anti-drug. Love and Truth—pretty powerful antidotes to drugs.
In this Frontlines section, we've tried to record the ideas of people who are on the frontlines of fighting drug abuse—such as those who work in prisons or in law enforcement — and also of people who have grappled with addictive substances. We are impressed that so many people from differing backgrounds and outlooks say that the bottom line is love.
The people talking about love weren't saying that citizens or communities should ignore the evils of drug use. Rather, they told us that families, neighbors, friends, and even those who aren't touched by this problem, need to love enough to take steps against drug use, to be proactive in their prayers and actions.
