One day my sister telephoned me and said that she had bought a copy of Science and Health and that she would like to bring it to me. She replied, "If this book will do half as much for you as it has for me, it will be well worth my trip."
After her visit, I picked up that book and began to read it. I found it so inspiring that I couldn't put it down. I had been wearing glasses, but if I read for more than a few minutes at a time, my eyes began to hurt. When my husband came home and saw me sitting on the couch, reading, he asked me, "Did you know that you are reading without your glasses?" I replied that I did not know it, but that my eyes were not tired at all, even though I had been reading for hours.
In addition, I had been extremely nervous because of a difficult experience I had had in the hospital. The doctor had advised me to take time off and relax each afternoon. My husband noticed that I did not seem to be nervous at all, but instead I seemed to be very calm. He asked me, "What brought this about?" I replied, "It's this book I have been reading." He said, "Well, for goodness sake, keep reading it."
