When I heard that the 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference would take place in Berlin, I was excited. And some questions came to mind—like, "What can I expect from this meeting? What makes it so important? Why is the meeting being held in Berlin, my hometown?"
Despite the wonderful fact that I don't have to travel far to get to the meeting, I was so grateful that the overall theme will be Mary Baker Eddy's statement: "The fact remains, that the textbook of Christian Science is transforming the universe." Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, p. 372. Because I believe that transformation of thought, from a purely material view of life to one that is more spiritually based, is exactly what everybody needs. It's what will bring individuals and societies freedom and peace.
Living in Berlin, I experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall. And the Wall fell when millions of fearless people stood up for righteousness and freedom. The meeting-place for the 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference is only a few blocks away from where the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall took place. So to me, the meeting is a symbol for the tearing down of mental walls. And to have the meeting in a place so close to where the Wall came down, is very special. So I am full of expectation.
