I was downtown in Karlsruhe, Germany, and was waiting for the tram at a trolley stop. A bookstall on a small nearby square caught my interest, and I wandered over. It had to do with the book Science and Health. I had to smile a little because I was a physical therapist and had been involved with natural healing and mental science for decades.
I really liked the title, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, since for me health has something to do with research. It's not static or passive. To me, health is basically the natural state of people. In my professional career I had noticed that my personal interest lay in working with people's potential for health, not for sickness. The potential for life is very obviously life-supporting and life-promoting. So I proceed from the fact that health is inherent in people's potential and being.
I saw that Science and Health was written in a religious way, which first prejudiced me against it. The vocabulary was foreign to me.
