Germany wins a gold medal for hope

A Gallup survey in 15 countries showed that Germans are gold medalists in pessimism.

Eighty-seven percent believe that the future will bring no good. They anticipate unemployment, political injustice, a listless economy.

As a resident of Germany, I thought I knew what they were talking about. But when I talked to people I was surprised. Statistics don't tell the whole story—there is still hope to be found.
